How It Started

New Spring Baptist Church Ikorodu was founded on 26th October 2003 by the then Lagos State Baptist Conference under the leadership of Pastor Dr S. O. Oke. In that year 2003, a decision was taken in Lagos State Baptist Conference to establish Churches in virtually all Associations in the Conference. The responsibility was saddled on Rev. Adebayo F. K., who was the Conference Mission Director then. On 19th – 21st of October, 2003, a 3-day revival programme was organized tagged “RESTORATION”. The minister was Rev. Dele Oluwole, the then Pastor of New Heritage Baptist Church. Following the revival programme was the holding of the first service on 26th of October under an uncompleted flat belonging to one Mr Adewole. The place was secured by one Mr Sesan Ogunfile. In attendance at this first service were:

  • Pastor A. A. Ogunfuwa
  • Bro Olasunkanmi Olawoyin
  • Rev. Francis Adebayo
  • Pastor (Mrs) Adebayo
  • Dns O. M. Ogunfuwa

The Church was christened ‘Estate Baptist Church” at the take off, but later changed to”Goshen Baptist Church”.
After five years of an unimpressive growth in the Church, the Lagos State Baptist Conference leadership beckoned for the assistance of New Estate Baptist Church, Surulere to adopt the Church as one of her preaching stations. Thus, the ownership of the Church under God was transferred to NEBC, Surulere. Then the name of the Church was changed to New Spring Baptist Church (carved from John 4:14).

NEBC commenced her mission work in the New Spring Baptist Church on 9th of March, 2008 as the new mother of the Church by sending some brethren from Surulere to come and be worshipping at the newly adopted preaching station. Among those who were pioneer missionaries from NEBC were:

  • Bro & Sis Usman, Ibrahim,
  • Sis Grace Sagay,
  • Bro Salu,
  • Bro Dimeji,
  • Bro Ajisebutu Omotayo,
  • Bro Sam, Jessica,
  • Jemimah and Jason Usman,
  • Sammy, Molly Ileoba, and
  • Bro Sam and Sis Tola Ileoma who led the team.

In August 2008, having received the call to the Pastorate of the Church as extended to him by the New Estate Baptist Church (the mother Church), Rev. Dr & Rev. Mrs Ayo-Jimoh resumed the Pastorate of the Church. They had their first service at the Church on 3rd of August, 2008. Members of the as at the time he resumed are:

  • Bro Wale Olaniyan
  • Bro & Sis Avoseh
  • Bro Julius Olaniyan
  • Sis Elizabeth Olaniyan
  • Bro Shadrach Bolanle
  • Bro & Sis Wasiu Adebayo
  • Sis Felicia Adebambo
  • Mama Shokoya
  • Bro Omotayo Ajisebutu

On Saturday 28th of September, 2008, Rev. Dr Ayo-Jimoh was inducted as the Pastor of New Spring Baptist Church, Ikorodu. He pastored the Church for 13 good years, during which the following were achieved:

  • Membership of the Church increased to about 157 on roll, of which 127 (children inclusive) were active members.
  • Fencing project was completed with a gate house, a see through and toilets.
  • Church auditorium of 250 capacity, fully air-conditioned, was started and completed. It was dedicated on 14th of December, 2011.
  • Organization of the Church on 14th of December, 2014.
  • A multipurpose two-storey building project which was to house a conference room, children Church, teenagers Church and administrative office was embarked upon but collapsed while ongoing as a result of structural defect.
  • Ordination of the first set of Diaconates in persons of Dn Omotayo Ajisebutu, Dn Ezekiel Olawale Olaniyan and Dns Oluyemisi Daniel-Adebayo.

Rev. Ayo-Jimoh, on receiving a call to Suurulere Baptist Church, handed over the leadership of the Church to Deacon Omotayo Ajisebutu on 25th of July, 2021. Dn Ajisebutu together with the other deacons led the Church from 2021 to March, 2023, when the Church extended a call to Rev. & Mrs Matthew Kolawole Ademola, who resumed the Pastorate of the Church on 3rd of April, 2023 and were inducted on 16th of April, 2023.
